How can I find answers to Google Apps questions?

  1. Google it!  Many answers to your specific questions are easily found through an Internet search
  2. This page may answer your question.  Alternatively, use "Search this site" (top right corner)
  3. Search our "Google Apps Learning Center" Google Group for your answer or submit it for others to reply to
  4. If you still don't find your answer, submit your question to the Global Help Desk via the HelpDesk system, by email or by phone (704-843-6620 or 800-215-7813)

Is a corporate address directory available?

(The former "SIL Corporate Directory" which was visible in email clients through the retired JARMail system is gone.)

There is now a Google Directory (containing Wycliffe USA, SIL, Global Alliance addresses) that can be accessed in one of three ways:

    • Online: A "Directory" section is found under your Google Contacts.  Google will also search the global directory as you type when composing an email.
    • For Outlook for Windows users who use G Suite Sync for Microsoft Office (instead of IMAP or POP), this directory is listed as "Global Address Book" within Outlook.
    • For Apple Mail - By following Google's "See Google Contacts on your mobile device" instructions, you will also, it turns out, add the global directory
It is not accessible from other clients, such as Thunderbird.

NOTE:  Adding your Google account in either Android or IOS will also include access to the corporate address directory.  Refer to Google's directions.

NOTE:  As an alternative, GTIS has provided another address book hosted on Insite.  Because this custom application draws information from both the Google Directory and Insite, this address book provides a little more personal details for each person (alternate phone numbers, spouse's name, position, supervisor).  This application is not part of the G Suite system so SIL Google Apps will only be able to answer basic questions about this application before referring you to another group.

Are Shared Contacts available in Google Contacts?

Yes, but you only have the option to share ALL your contacts, not selected Contacts or a Contact Group.
